[ILL DEBATE] Best Rap Crew: G.O.O.D. Music, YMCMB or MMG?

Rap crews aren’t new to hip-hop when you consider legendary groups like Wu-Tang, A Tribe Called Quest and even Dipset or Roc-A-Fella, but lately it seems like the new crews are battling for that top spot. YMCMB and G.O.O.D. Music haven’t been strangers to beef with Common and Pusha T both dissing Drake and Lil Wayne dissing Pusha T recently. Rick Ross’ MMG regime has managed to shy away from rap feuds for now, but with their increasing popularity it’s only a matter of time before someone is battle tested. So with each of these crews fighting to outdo one another, we simply ask who’s the best right now?

Lil Wayne’s YMCMB (Young Money Cash Money Billionaires) crew consists of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Cory Gunz, Bow Wow, Busta Rhymes and Mystikal just to name a few. If we’re talking record sales, Wayne’s crew is the most successful putting out multi-platinum singles and albums in the last three years. Carter IV is triple platinum, Take Care is platinum and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is certified gold as of today. YMCMB’s “Big 3” definitely dominates the Billboards whenever their projects are released.

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music crew’s most relevant members are Big Sean, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Common, and CyHi The Prynce. Although they haven’t dominated the charts, G.O.O.D. Music owns the competition when it comes to originality and lyricism. Kanye West’s crew is preparing the release of their G.O.O.D. Music compilation, which I’m sure will increase their popularity. Also, their new single Mercy is already a radio hit and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Rick Ross’ MMG (Maybach Music Group) crew consists of Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley, and Gunplay. MMG is one of the hottest rap crews in hip-hop right now led by the boss Ricky Ross. After a bad debut, Wale managed to bounce back with his MMG solo album Ambition selling over 500,000 copies. MMG has also dominated the air waves with hits like I’ma Boss, Tupac Back, Lotus Flower Bomb, House Party, and more. Self Made 2 drops on June 26th followed by a few solo releases from the MMG roster.

Each rap crew is equally respected and brings something different to the table, but YMCMB, though on the downfall, has proven to be the most successful. The debate, however, is the “BEST RAP CREW” and lately Lil Wayne’s crew has been more pop than hip-hop. G.O.O.D. Music is still establishing itself with Kanye West and Big Sean leading the way. Therefore, if I had to pick the best rap crew right now, I’d say MMG. Everything Rozay’s crew has released so far is a hit and their popularity is growing. Ross also seems to want the best for his artists collectively, while YMCMB has yet to help the careers of half of it’s rapidly increasing roster. I know most of you are going to say YMCMB or G.O.O.D. Music hands down based on popularity, but MMG has been more consistent than both in 2012. If you don’t agree vote and sound off below.
